Remember Max? Max came to Henrico Humane Society a while ago, and it was quite the journey to find him the perfect forever family. After spending some time in a foster home, we realized that Max had some behavioral issues that needed to be addressed in order to help him find the loving forever home he deserved.
Medical issues tend to get all of the attention during our fundraisers, but Max is here to show you how important training can be. Max adored humans, but he exhibited some aggression towards other animals which prevented him from living life to the fullest. After a 3 week training with Breakthrough K9 Training, Max was able to start going on leash walks and being around other animals without reacting.
Max still needed to be an only pet, which meant it took a little longer to find him the perfect forever home. But that’s ok because our goal here at Henrico Humane Society is to create lasting families, which means we have to make sure that the home is a good fit for both the animal and their adopter.
Between the cost of training and the additional cost of basic medical care, food, and supplies due to his long stay with us, Max cost Henrico Humane Society much more than the average dog. But because of supporters like you, Henrico Humane Society can make commitments to dogs like Max to find them a wonderful forever family where they can have an amazing life, no matter how long it takes.
