Buddy - Heartworm positive and positively heartwarming

Buddy is a young terrier mix that Henrico Humane rescued from Henrico Animal Control.  He was a stray who was sadly not reclaimed by his owner. When we picked him up, we could tell what a friendly, affectionate little guy he was! We then took him to the vet who made sure all of his shots were up-to-date, he was neutered, and did a 4DX to determine if he was heartworm, ehrilichia, or lyme positive.

Everything went well until the results came back for the 4DX.  Buddy was heartworm positive and would have to undergo treatment. The treatment takes about 4 months to complete and costs about $500. It can be a grueling process for the dog and for the caretaker. Luckily, Buddy's foster agreed to keep him for that length of time and see him through the treatment.

Buddy is in the final phase of his treatment and definitely feeling better. And the best news: his foster intends to adopt him once he is medically cleared.

It is because people like you that we are able to pay for costly medical care. Buddy says, “woof woof woof!” (Translation: “Thank you donors - you saved my life, and made my (heartworm-free) heart feel so happy!”)

If you’re interested in helping animals like Buddy, please volunteer or donate. Thank you!
