Update: since writing this blog, we are SO HAPPY to share that Izzy has found her forever home. Yay for Izzy!!
Izzy is a sweet one and half year old who has proven to be one tough cookie. After her two puppies were adopted, Henrico Humane Society saved Izzy from a rural shelter where she endured a painful pyometra. Pyometra is an infection of the female organs which threatens a dog’s life if not caught in an early stage. This serious condition resulted in a costly emergency spay surgery. Because HHS intervened, Izzy made a full recovery. We also began treating Izzy for heartworms so she is now starting to live her best life!
Izzy loves her toys, soft bed, and her furry foster sister! She is crate-trained and knows commands “Sit!” and “Down.” This spunky girl is good with folks of all ages and will occasionally try to “hug” you if she gets too excited. Izzy has begun to respond to verbal correction, and she is learning to stay and come. It would be fantastic for her new family to continue to teach her commands and reward her good behavior. She is definitely a people pup and loves to lounge around in her open crate.
Once Izzy is cleared for exercise after finishing her heartworm treatment, she will enjoy easy strolls to explore the world around her. She won’t be a hiking or running companion, but Izzy could benefit from having a doggy sibling to romp around with and set an example for her. She’s also made enough progress that she would be happy as an only pet. Izzy needs a family who will give her the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and socialize with furry friends.
