Louie the Lhasa Apso - A Sponsorship Story

Occasionally Henrico Humane Society takes in animals that we learn are likely to have long term health issues. In an effort to ensure that these animals find the loving homes that they deserve, Henrico Humane Society will sometimes make the animal a sponsorship animal - meaning that HHS will cover the cost of the animal’s medical issue for the rest of their life.

Louie was one of those animals. Louie is an adorable Lhasa Apso that came to HHS a few years ago. Unfortunately, Louie is suffering from thyroid and kidney issues. His thyroid condition recently required surgery costing over $3,000. While Louie recovered well from the surgery, his kidney condition has worsened and required a recent ER hospitalization costing over $2,000. Luckily, Louie has been released from the hospital and is recovering well at home.

With generous donations from people like you, Henrico Humane Society has the ability to help dogs like Louie, dogs that may otherwise be overlooked or left behind in local shelters.  Louie is just one example of how your donations through Dollars for Dogs helps dogs in need.
