Annual Report 2022

Highlights from 2022 and Hopes for 2023

As we kick off 2023, we wanted to take some time to reflect on what we accomplished in 2022. All of you helped us make it happen - our donors, our volunteers, our supporters, our adopters, our veterinarians - THANK YOU!

A look-back at 2022

Other big highlights from 2022

You voted YES to a new shelter in Henrico!

In November 2022, Henrico County voters overwhelmingly approved more than $500 million in funding for county projects, including $15 million to build a no-kill animal shelter and adoption center. Henrico Humane Society is so excited to partner with Henrico County to run the new shelter once it is built.

We have been busy preparing for this new project. Through the Community Foundation for a Greater Richmond, we received a grant to hire our first paid employee. Our new employee will help grow and organize our corps of volunteers and will work with the Board of Directors to help prepare for the new shelter. Stay tuned for more news about this exciting undertaking!

Transporting in style

Our transportation vans got a makeover! For over a year, they had no lettering or pictures to identify Henrico Humane Society, but now you’ll recognize our wheels wherever we go.

Our adoption stand returned to Petco in Short Pump

For a large part of 2022, our regular adoption stand didn’t have a home base as the Petco Short Pump store underwent a few changes. We flexed during this time period, rotating between generous hosts for our adoption stand. We cannot thank these temporary hosts enough for welcoming our volunteers and our animals so graciously:

  • Fido Park Avenue Dog Boutique

  • River City Roll

  • Petco on Parham Rd

  • Petco at Westchester Commons

  • Petco in Midlothian

We are happy to be back at the Petco in Short Pump for 2023!

Hopes for 2023!

We are so excited for what’s to come in 2023, and most importantly for the animals we will be able to rescue and place in loving homes. Here are a few highlights for what’s in store for this year.

Save the date - we hope to see you at PetExpo on Feb 25!

♡ Monitoring and walking animals at adoption stand
♡ Transporting dogs to adoption stand
♡ Inputting medical information into the database
♡ Socializing cats and cleaning their cages
♡ Supporting social media efforts

Most of all - we hope to rescue, foster, and find forever families for as many dogs and cats as we can in 2023!
